20. September @ 10:00 - 21. September @ 18:00

Bunte Ballons steigen aus dem Schornstein einer Dampflok

The Capital of Culture year includes a very special milestone in the history of transport: the world’s first railway, which ran between Stockton and Darlington in England and opened on 27 September 1825. Together with numerous rail industry partners and associations, the VMS will be celebrating the bicentenary of railways in Europe on 20 and 21 September 2025.

Come along between 10 am and 6 pm and join in a wide range of events at different locations across the VMS network. Special train and bus services will run between events. Take a journey through the history of the railways and enjoy a unique experience of historical and modern rail transport.

You can find all information on the official event website www.vms.de/200-jahre-eisenbahn.
